Trademark Name Search
Before you print packaging, build a website or file an application, you need to know whether your brand name is actually free. A trademark search checks the Trademark Registry for marks that are identical or confusingly similar to yours in the classes that matter to your business.
A good search looks beyond exact matches: names that sound alike, are spelt differently, or share a dominant word can still block your application or lead to a dispute later. The result is a clear recommendation: file as is, adjust the name, or choose another.

Frequently asked questions
Is a trademark search mandatory before filing?
It is not legally required, but it is strongly recommended. Filing without a search risks objections, oppositions and wasted fees if a similar mark already exists.
If my business name is registered with the ROC, is the trademark safe?
No. Company or firm registration does not give trademark rights. A brand name can be registered as a company name and still conflict with someone else’s trademark.
Can I search the Registry myself?
The Registry’s public search is free to use, but interpreting the results, especially similar-sounding marks and class overlaps, is where professional judgment helps.
